Getting to Naples Italy
Naples Italy is conveniently located in the Bay of Naples, serving as the traditional gateway to Southern Italy. If you’re flying in from New York, continental Europe, or the UK, you can easily land at Naples International Airport, which is just 5 km from the city center. A taxi ride will typically take about 20 to 25 minutes—just remember to request the fixed fare displayed inside the taxi.
If you’re already in Italy, taking the train is your best option. Naples is on the main train line connecting it to Rome, with high-speed trains running several times an hour. The trip takes just over an hour and is a comfortable way to travel.
Exploring Naples
The Port of Naples is one of Italy’s busiest cruise ports, receiving over a million passengers each year. Luckily, it’s close to the city center, making it easy to walk to many of the attractions we’ll cover. The port also serves as a jumping-off point for exploring the stunning Amalfi Coast.
Navigating Naples is relatively straightforward. The city’s historic center is compact, with major sites located within a 1-2 mile radius. From the Central Station at Piazza Garibaldi, the famed Spaccanapoli splits the city and leads you into the heart of the historic core. This area is rich with culture, including the Spanish Quarters and the iconic Piazza del Plebiscito.
For those who prefer public transport, the metro system is easy to use, with plenty of taxis available. Just be mindful of your belongings, as pickpockets are common in busy areas.
